Tournament Wrap Up
2002
TEAMS
Saturday
| Deep Freeze 2002 doubled in size from the 2001 tournament, drawing 12 teams from around the region and from as far as Raleigh, North Carolina. Saturday morning found the fields covered with puddles, iced over from the chill of Friday night. In time, the sun climbed over the ridge and thawed the frozen wasteland, revealing that our playing fields were more water than land. | |
| Players stepped onto the
fields with gleaming cleats and bright white socks, soon to find themselves immersed in
3 inches of sloppy brown Tennessee mud. Conditions couldn't have been more
favorable for a healthy day of chasing plastic.
Following Saturday's Pool Play, the top six teams were: 1. Paideia |

Sunday
| Sunday morning, Camp Jordan Park resembled a battleground, full of divots and depressions deep enough to swallow a small dog. The fields were blanketed in a fog that hindered the view from one side of the Park to the other. And, it was cold. But, Mother Nature had no chance of getting in the way of our fun. | |
| The
top 4 teams had first round byes as the rest met for round 1
eliminations. It was another day of gettin' down in the brown!

Spirit Award
Congratulations to the CCS Chargers for being the overwhelming favorite for the coveted Deep Freeze Spirit Award! This team pulled itself together about 4 weeks before the tournament. Under the guidance of coach Scot Henderson, they worked hard in the short time they had to develop their game. But, it's pretty obvious that their sportsmanship comes naturally. The Chargers will take care of the Spirit Award until next year's tournament , when they'll get a free ride into the Deep Freeze.
Thanks to all the players and coaches for making Deep Freeze 2002 such a stellar experience! Hope to see most of you again next year.
